Reiki for Healing and Relaxation

What is Reiki?

The word ‘Reiki’ means ‘life force energy’. A Reiki healer uses non-invasive gentle touch to transfer this healing energy to the client and is often able to gain insight into blocks and issues, enabling her to offer specifically directed energetic healing as well as information for the client that may be useful in the healing process.

Why get Reiki?

People find Reiki healing helpful for all kinds of reasons. Amongst many other things, Reiki can:

  • help you to work through and resolve long-term or short-term issues in your life
  • support you as you receive other treatment or therapies for illness or injury, often making other treatments more effective
  • relieve pain in your body and possibly cure the cause of pain
  • help you to move past blocks in your life, helping your life to flow more freely towards greater happiness
  • deeply relax your body and mind

What happens in a Reiki healing session?

Here’s a rundown of what happens in a Reiki session:

  1. First we chat! It’s always helpful for me to understand what brought you to see me.
  2. I then ask you to lay down and relax (fully clothed – there’s no massage or oil etc.).
  3. I begin transferring energy to you by placing my hands gently on the body, generally starting at the head.
  4. From there, I follow the messages I receive from your energy as to where to place my hands and what kind of energy to offer.
  5. During this process, you relax.  You may fall asleep or you may feel very alert and observe…and either is fine. Some people prefer to stay silent during the treatment, while others find that the treatment frees up their expression and they find it very therapeutic to talk…and, again, either is fine. You may or may not feel anything during the treatment. Each treatment is different because the energy works specifically with you as an individual and with what you need at the time. You may find that emotions rise up wanting to be expessed. You may see colours or pictures. Or you may experience nothing but relaxation. What experiences you have during the treatment does not indicate whether the treatment is beneficial or not, they are simply messages that can help in your healing process.
  6. Afterwards, we chat about things that came up during the treatment, as well as any tools or techniques that may be helpful for you in going forward.

(Note: I never place my hands on intimate parts of the body. If you’re uncomfortable with the use of touch, the treatment can be done without actually touching the body at all – please let me know if this is your preference.)
